Let's talk timeline..

There’s nothing quite like waking up on your wedding day knowing you’re about to marry your person. But behind the dreamy vows and champagne toasts is one key ingredient to a smooth, stress-free day: a well-planned timeline. At Magnolia Legacy Photography, I’ve captured countless love stories across the South, and I can confidently say that a good timeline is the secret sauce to a joyful, seamless celebration. Whether you're Type A or just along for the ride, having a guide can make all the difference.

Let’s walk through a real-life wedding day timeline from one of my recent couples. This flow allowed for plenty of breathing room, emotional moments, and golden hour magic—without the stress. The bride started her day getting pampered with her girls, while the groom shared laughs (and maybe a toast or two) with his guys. From quiet moments during the first look to dancing the night away under string lights, everything had its moment—and nothing felt rushed.

Here’s a sample wedding timeline

that worked like a dream:

  • 12:00 PM – Photographer arrives, bride finishing hair + makeup
  • 12:30 PM – Flat-lay, detail shots, + getting ready portraits
  • 1:30 PM – First Look + private vows
  • 2:00 PM – Bride & Groom portraits
  • 2:30 PM – Wedding party photos
  • 3:00 PM – Immediate family photos
  • 4:00 PM – Ceremony
  • 4:30 PM – Newlywed portraits + cocktail hour/family candids
  • 5:30 PM – Private newlywed time in the bridal suite
  • 6:00 PM – Grand entrance + dinner
  • 6:30 PM – First dance, toasts, + golden hour portraits
  • 8:00 PM – Cake cutting + open dance floor
  • 10:00 PM – Grand exit (sparklers, bubbles, vintage car, or ribbon wands!)

Here’s the best part!

You don’t have to figure all this out alone. One month before your wedding, we’ll have a planning meeting to build the perfect, customized timeline just for you. I’ll walk you through every moment—from getting ready to the grand exit—so you can relax knowing I’ll be there to capture every detail effortlessly. You bring the love and the vision; I’ll bring the timeline and the magic.

A well-structured timeline like this one leaves space for what really matters: connection. You'll feel less rushed, your photos will reflect the joy of the day, and you’ll be free to soak in every second. Want my top tip? Build in buffer time—because lipstick touch-ups, missing boutonnieres, or emotional moms are always part of the magic (and the chaos).
